#SecretEmpire Why Should They?

Cover to Secret Empire #2 by MARK BROOKSI have no plans to buy any Secret Empire comics. Nor do I have plans to be a fan of Cap either. So many will boycott Marvel over Secret Empire and the controversy involving the alteration of Captain America and his history. Others will read the comic and enjoy it. Right now the outrage is so bad that Marvel finally spoke out and asks everyone to be patient and let the story get all played out.

“With Marvel Comics’ Secret Empire, the forces of Hydra have taken over and, due to the villainous actions of the Red Skull, have manipulated Marvel’s greatest hero, Captain America, and forced him to adopt their cause. At Marvel, we want to assure all of our fans that we hear your concerns about aligning Captain America with Hydra and we politely ask you to allow the story to unfold before coming to any conclusion.
Captain America, will always be a cornerstone of the Marvel Universe who will stand up for what is right, and Secret Empire will be the biggest challenge Steve has ever faced. What you will see at the end of this journey is that his heart and soul — his core values, not his muscle or his shield — are what save the day against Hydra and will further prove that our heroes will always stand against oppression and show that good will always triumph over evil.”

Are people listening? No. Why should they be patient when a comic book character created by two Jewish comic book artists is now in league with an evil organization that’s modeled after Adolph Hitler and his Third Reich, the very group of people that murdered 6 million Jews during their 12-year reign of terror? Why should they be patient when an X-Men villain who was a survivor of the Holocaust ends up being in league with an organization that does to the mutants what Hitler and the Nazis did to all those Jewish victims of the Holocaust– throw them in concentration camps to be killed in most horrific ways?
Why? Should? They?
At times like these I really do wish that The Punisher is part of the DC Comics universe rather than The Marvel Universe (Marvel can keep Deadpool and HydraCap. DC Comics can have The Punisher if Marvel says it’s OK!). In the DC Universe, The Punisher can square off against The Joker, Penguin, Poison Ivy, Two-Face, Hush, Catwoman, Killer Frost, Gorilla Grodd, Harley Quinn, Lex Luthor, Deathstroke, and a whole host of other DC Villains that can put up such a good fight against the world’s deadliest vigilante… if they’re lucky enough to survive deadly encounters with him. He may not have superpowers, but he does have what it takes to strike them all down and kill them– that is unless Batman comes along and stops him.
I can bet that if DC Comics buys the rights to The Punisher, they’ll proceed to make solo Punisher comics from the Vertigo Comics division and a major Punisher/Batman comic that will be met with high praise coming from everyone who buys and enjoys the comics whether they’re fans of The Punisher, Batman, or both.
