I have to weigh a little bit on this because Frank grew up idolizing Cap whom he claims to have inspired him to join the military and serve in the US Marines. He has huge respect for Cap, even when Cap beat him up and kicked him out of the Avengers group for killing two thieves during the first Civil War story line. But all that respect is going down the drain now that it is discovered that Cap is evil. Leaving Frank no choice but to take him down, with deep regrets and a heavy sorrowful heart, and give him the ultimate punishment. I wouldn’t be surprised if Spencer decides to do several panels where Frank beats up Cap in a role reversal version of the Civil War scene. Frank beats up Cap severely. Cap does nothing to fight back. Apparently he knows that he has hurt and betrayed everyone, including Frank who violently attacks Cap and struck him down. But he still won’t kill Cap out of respect for him…. unless it is revealed that Cap is truly a murderous piece of trash that killed so many innocent people throughout his past campaigns with Hydra and the Nazis. Then Punisher, deeply ashamed of Cap, will kill him outright.
I understand that some people will not buy anymore comics from Marvel because of what they did to Cap. But will they buy comics from DC if they decided to do a major Batman/Punisher story line (part of the DC Rebirth series) where all of the events of the story, including the comic tie-ins, will lead The Punisher into becoming a permanent part of the DC Comics universe alongside The Justice League, The Batman Family, Green Arrow, Wonder Woman, Superman, HellBlazer John Constantine, Teen Titans, and others? Only time will tell.
In my honest opinion, I think Frank will fit in the world of DC Comics much better than the world Marvel Comics. Especially in the Batman areas of the DC Universe where he’ll clearly fit in with a whole lot of heroes who, like Frank, has no superpowers. But what’s to stop them from becoming the heroes (or anti-heroes) of the DC Universe? Why nothing, of course.
