For awhile I thought because Marvel’s The Punisher appeared much later than the other 4 Marvel shows, The Punisher show is exempt from having to wait a few years before Marvel/Disney can bring back the shows and use the characters again. “Not so,” says IndieWire that published this article that warns Disney/Marvel against breaking part of the contract signed by both Marvel and Netflix that says, “upon the shows’ cancellation, none of the shows along with the characters shall be used again for much longer (!) than two years.
According to a production executive, Disney has been warned by lawyers not to even think about developing new content featuring the characters of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Punisher until the two-year mark. The clarification is an important once, as it means Disney probably won’t be spending time during the next two years working on new material with these characters to launch new series in 2020. If Disney can’t even begin developing a new Daredevil series until 2020, then it’s going to take much longer than just two years for the character to return to the big or small screen. Another option is Disney does not revive the superheroes at all.
Do they mean to tell us that Punisher is also part of that contract, too? No wonder I’m feeling depressed! It shouldn’t be right at all in my opinion. Yes, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist is part of that contract. But I didn’t believe that Punisher is a part of the contract because the show didn’t appear until much later after the 4 Defender shows. I still won’t believe that Punisher is part of that contract. When I first saw the article, I thought it was bullcrap. I refuse to believe that The Punisher is part of that contract to where I regarded the article as “fake news” coming from a click-bait site. But unfortunately the site and the article is legit. The article does appear to confirm that Netflix lawyers is forcing us to wait several years for Marvel/Disney to produce new materials for them. But then again, it could be a teaser gimmick that’s pulling our legs the same way Marvel was pulling our legs last year when it was spreading fake news about the Defenders appearing in Avengers: Infinity War last year; they never did.
It appears that we have no choice but to go along with what’s going on concerning the Defender shows and wait two years or more for the shows to make a comeback… unless Marvel/Disney suddenly appears to officially announce new materials that will give us the real hope of seeing the Defender shows and Punisher again much sooner rather than later.
NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR — The Punisher is the one and only Marvel Character I ever cared about. No other Marvel Character will do. Which is why I have no plans to see Avengers: Endgame at all. But as for you awesome people who care about the other Marvel Characters including The Punisher, feel free to go see the film and have a super time. And above all– Don’t spoil the film!! Whatever you do just don’t ever spoil the film for everybody who haven’t saw the film yet!! Got it?!
