Imagine seeing Jon Bernthal starring in Punisher comics.

Hello? Is that you, Micro?

Today I read this interesting article from Entertainment Weekly promoting the official trailer for Sweet Virginia, an upcoming pulp fiction film scheduled to be released on November 17th. It stars Jon Bernthal as a small town motel clerk name Sam who befriends a man responsible for 3 murders that have rocked the small town to the core. Wait till you see what the article says about Jon’s character in the movie.

In this story, based on Ben and Paul China’s Black List script, Bernthal’s Sam is running a motel in a small town when he meets a mysterious drifter, Elwood, played by Girls actor Christopher Abbott. The two men strike a friendship, but Sam doesn’t know Elwood is a hitman responsible for a local massacre. Eventually, the truth reveals itself, bringing Sam’s inner demons out with it.

The moment I saw what the article mentions about Jon’s character being a tormented soul that brings out his inner demons the instant he learns the truth about his so-called friend, I was like, “Hey! That’s got to be one of many traits that define who Frank Castle is, an anti-hero with a tormented soul who brings out the worst of his inner demons on any criminal victim he comes across.”
Now imagine some of Jon Bernthal’s greatest collection of films and TV shows getting a special touch from Marvel that transforms them into a limited series of 8 Punisher comics based on some of Bernthal’s most prominent shows. I admit I’m not a comic book writer. I don’t think I have any comic book writing talents like Garth Ennis, Becky Cloonan, Greg Rucka, and Mike Baron has. But if I have the talent to make highly rated Punisher comics, I would create a series of Punisher comics based on 8 famous shows starring Jon Bernthal.

  • Punisher: Sweet Virginia – Punisher goes undercover as a small town motel clerk name “Sam” to take out a hit man named Elwood who’s responsible for 3 murders that have rocked a peaceful town to the core.
  • Punisher Max: Shot Caller – Punisher voluntarily goes to prison as an undercover inmate by the name of “ShotGun” for a chance to punish a violent prison gang that has just recruited a former successful businessman turned accidental criminal by the name of “Money” and plans to use him to commit a crime against a rival gang. Frank plots to destroy both gangs. Sadly that includes Money who has a wife and son with no affiliations to any criminal gangs.
  • Punisher: Sicario – Punisher teams up with FBI Agent Kate Macer to take down a Mexican drug cartel along the US/Mexican border.
  • The Punisher vs The Walking Dead – Frank, driving in his Battle Van in hot pursuit of a criminal target, winds up inadvertently driving into Dr. Strange’s portal that takes him to the World of AMC’s The Walking Dead where he teams up with Rick Grimes (who is reminded by Frank of his former deputy and friend Shane Walsh) and his band of survivors to battle an army of Walkers and The Saviors lead by Negan.
  • Punisher: Fury – Imagine Frank as a World War II soldier teaming up with Nick Fury and his original Howling Commandos to survive Nazi Germany in 1945.
  • The Punisher’s Pilgrimage – In an alternative Marvel universe, a band of monks with cursed powers (such as Brother Matt, who is cursed with blindness, and Brother Parker who is cursed by a spider) must deliver a very sacred object known as The Infinity Gauntlet to The First Church of S.H.I.E.L.D. located in the Italian version of New York City. It’s a deadly mission that would’ve taken all their lives if it weren’t for a certain mute with a emblazoned skull.
  • Punisher Max: Widows – (Not to be confused with Punisher Max: The Widowmaker) Four widows try to make a living out of their dead criminal husbands’ fortunes. But here comes The Widowmaker, a skull chested vigilante responsible for their husbands’ deaths.
  • Punisher: Baby Driver – Baby, a getaway driver for a crime boss, doesn’t know which is worse, being pulled back into committing a bank robbery for his boss or getting killed by The Punisher, who’s going undercover as a bank robber named “Griff” to send Baby and his gang six feet under.

Now would you be willing to buy such Punisher comics if you find them in comic book stores everywhere? If you’re a big fan of Jon Bernthal and his version of The Punisher, I bet you will as long as those comics are just as epic as all the film and TV shows Jon prominently star in.
